Summer 2010

Dear Donors,

Since last July, The Caring Center has received record donations and distributed a record amount of food to its clients. Similarly, a record number of clients received clothing assistance while a record number of students received back-to-school assistance. We continue to serve all who come to our doors while also sending them to other organizations or agencies which can provide additional assistance. All of this is in furtherance of The Caring Center's mission to serve those in need.

The constancy of life's challenges fuel the furnace of innovation. This paradigm is increasingly relevant in all aspects of community care. Increased need in recessionary times, coupled with the acknowledged need to shift away from a dependent on diminishing government coffers leaves The Caring Center at a cross roads. The road well traveled is service to those in need. The road now connecting is one of solutions – innovative solutions – to solve chronic problems of need in our community.

In the past 12 months, The Caring Center has embraced these challenges presented and has committed to solving these problems with innovation, persistence, and charity, while maintaining constant service to those in need.

Young boy eatingFood has been at the core of our innovation this year. We implemented "Kids at the Table" (KAT), a pilot program of 50 youth who combine after school tutoring with dinner. This is a program which emphasizes education and good choices while filling a basic need. This program will be expanded to more and more students in Boone County in the coming years, with the hope to expand it to all school districts and all students in need. This program will also serve as the basis for an expanded program of "Everyone at the Table" (EAT), in which whole families will be invited and involved. Food and family values will be emphasized as the primary building blocks for family stability and growth. Advancement of these innovative programs will also lead to advancement of programs centered on the individual and opportunities to pursue personal enrichment, education, and betterment.

Through these pathways, The Caring Center will fulfill its mission towards moving its clients to stability. In these endeavors, The Caring Center will work to identify barriers to opportunities while working with its clients and the community to remove these barriers still emphasizing the individual's obligations.

Great need has been addressed in the past 12 months and yet much need remains to be addressed. We thank all of our patrons and volunteers for their tremendous support. We look forward to serving our neighbors in the coming months, and working with the community in solving problems which cause so much need.

Sincerely,
Mike Einterz, President
