Goals:

  1. By 2015 - Reduce childhood hunger by 50% in Boone County.
  2. By 2020 - Eliminate childhood hunger in Boone County

Three Initiatives Established by the Hunger Initiative Committee:

  1. Kids at the Table - Kids At the Table is an on-site feeding program which provides a hot meal to school age children, after school through the school year, at Stokes Elementary School and at the Lebanon Boys & Girls Club. At the LBGC, three meals a day are offered through the week during summer break.
  2. Food Pantries - The Caring Center provides supplemental food through our client choice food pantry. The Hunger Initiative committee has been instrumental in helping us to provide nutritious food (fresh fruit & vegetables and milk and other dairy products) to our clients. The Stokes food pantry opened in the fall of 2010 using a start-up Grant provided by Gleaner's Food Bank..
  3. Table Talk - A new program started in the Fall 2011 to help 20 families manage their food resources with bi-weekly meetings to discuss their food situation, attend cooking and nutrition classes and review expense budgeting techniques. Food will be provided by the Caring Center to ensure that these families are completely food secure.

History of Kids at the Table

In August 2009 we held several fundraising events for this program and formed committees to get a kid's cafe up and running. On March 8, 2010, in partnership with the Lebanon Boys and Girls Club, the first KAT - Kids at the Table session was held at the Lebanon Boys and Girls Club.
